Bonsall DUI Wreck Kills Bicyclist

KUSI News San Diego reported recently that a DUI-related accident between a tractor-trailer and a bicycle turned deadly for an Oceanside man last Tuesday near Bonsall, California. 

According to officials from the local office of the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place between 10:10 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Tuesday, December 14 on CA State Route 76, just west of North Riber Road. The victim, a man from Oceanside 58 years of age, was pedaling eastbound in the marked and designated bicycle lane on a KHS road bike. An eastbound Freightliner semi-truck towing a standard box trailer, driven by a man from Santa Fe Springs in Los Angeles County 57 years of age, struck the victim and his bicycle from behind, ejecting the victim from the bike onto the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The semi driver left the scene of the accident briefly but returned after finding a safe space to make a u-turn. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an unspecified drug. The identities of the victim or the trucker have not been released by authorities at the present time.
