Bicyclist Killed In Suspected DUI Crash

No matter what mode of transportation someone takes to get from where they are to where they are going, there are always risks involved. Even if you decide rather than driving to take public transportation, walk, or travel by bicycle instead, there’s still a chance of getting into an accident and being seriously injured or worse.

ABC 10 reports that a 38-year-old woman was killed by a car as she was crossing the street in Modesto Sunday evening.

A spokesperson for the Modesto Police Department said that the bicyclist was crossing Woodland Avenue at the Yellowstone Avenue intersection at approximately 5:45 p.m. when she was struck by a 2017 Acura ILX.

Paramedics and police responded to the scene of the accident. The woman was rushed to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries she suffered in the crash. The woman later died as the result of her injuries.

After a series of field sobriety tests, Modesto Police officers arrested 51-year-old Christina Castillo on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Modesto Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or anyone who may have surveillance video to contact Traffic Officer Kyle Johnson through the Department of Traffic Safety Number (209) 572-9592 or by email [email protected]
