Auburn Accident Caused by Drug DUI

DUI, which is short for driving under the influence, is normally associated with alcohol. However, it is not limited to this aspect. A person can be charged with DUI if caught driving while influenced by any substance that affects their ability to drive. This includes alcohol and both legal and illegal drugs.

An accident in Auburn, California claimed the lives of two teenagers in early April. The two teens were struck by a pickup truck in the early evening hours of Sunday, April 3.

The accident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Highway 49 near Locksley Lane. All three teenagers were walking north on the southbound side of the highway. The teens were well onto the shoulder when the truck struck two of them.

CHP David Martinez emphasized that the teenagers were not doing anything wrong. They had been walking in a safe location.

The driver of the truck veered onto the shoulder, where two of the teenage boys were struck. The third teenager avoided being hit. One of the teens died at the scene and a second died later at the hospital.

All of the teens attended Pacer High School together.

The driver of the truck, Philip Ingram, 62, was arrested on charges of DUI. It was not made clear exactly what type of drug Ingram had ingested.
