Anaheim Woman Dies in DUI Accident

Lifeguard saves a man

Driving while intoxicated can often result in an accident. When this occurs, it can cause the charges a person faces to become even more serious. Even if a DUI is not immediately suspected, having a history of DUI arrests can lead to the suspicion of DUI being involved in an accident.

In Lake Forest, California, a 26-year-old woman lost her life early Thursday morning after the man driving the car she was a passenger in crashed his car into a tree. The driver is suspected of having been under the influence at the time of the accident.

The accident occurred just before 3:40 am and involved a 1964 Dodge Dart that crashed into a tree on the eastbound side of Lake Forest Drive near Overlake.

When police arrived on the scene, they encountered a female in the passenger seat and a male in the driver’s seat. Both were trapped in the vehicle and the jaws of life had to be used to force the passenger door open.

Both were taken to Mission Hospital. The driver was unresponsive with a head injury and facial injuries.

The woman in the passenger seat was identified as Jessica Lujan of Anaheim. Wednesday had been her 26th birthday.

The Orange County Sheriff Department’s Major Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the case as a possible DUI crash.

While the driver was not initially identified, authorities state that he faces charges of DUI and vehicular manslaughter. He also faces a possible homicide charge. He had previously been convicted of more than one DUI.

The driver was in surgery Thursday morning for internal injuries, however, he is expected to survive.
