San Diego Union-Tribune reports that a three-vehicle crash along Interstate 15 near Fallbrook has left two people dead and seriously injured another person. One of those killed in the collision was a four-year-old girl.
Investigators with the California Highway Patrol say that 23-year-old Erick Arambula of Oceanside was driving his Toyota pickup truck on Old Highway 395 when the truck veered off the road and crashed through a chain link fence.
The truck continued down an embankment into the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 north of State Route 76. The truck collided head-on with a Kia sedan and a Toyota sedan—the force of the impact sent at least one of the two cars onto its roof.
The CHP and emergency crews responded to the scene. Despite all life-saving efforts on behalf of paramedics, the driver of the Kia, a 29-year-old woman, and her four-year-old girl died at the crash scene.
Arambula suffered significant injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Three other people suffered only minor injuries.
According to a statement released by the California Highway Patrol, Arambula was later arrested on several charges, including felony driving under the influence of alcohol and two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter.
