Alleged DUI Motorist Arrested After Fatal Crash in West Covina

We all know of the dangers of driving while intoxicated. Yet, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it is estimated that 10,000 people die in motor vehicle crashes that involve at least one motorist who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs each year. 

Fox 11 reports that one more person has died after an alleged alcohol-fueled crash in West Covina on Sunday morning. The driver of that vehicle has been arrested on the charges of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

According to a statement released by the West Covina Police Department, officers responded to the single-vehicle crash at approximately 12:05 a.m. at Velinda Avenue and Glendora Avenue. The car was found in a flood channel. 

Authorities say that one of the passengers inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered only minor injuries. 

West Covina Police officers arrested 24-year-old Jose Felix Tamayo-Juarez of Victorville on the charges of felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter. Tamayo-Juarez.

A judge set Tamayo-Juarez’s bond at $100,000. He is currently being held at the West Covina city jail.
