It’s been hotter than usual in Los Angeles, and it’s also the peak season for tourism. Tourists from colder climes are hitting hotel pools to cool off. But one motel in San Pedro got an unwelcome surprise when an alleged drunk driver crashed through a brick wall into their pool.
The Daily Breeze reported on the incident. The crash happened on Sunday night near Second and Gaffney streets. Eight people were in the pool at the time of the crash, including young children. Detectives say that the driver lost control of their vehicle while negotiating a turn and went through the protective wall around the pool.
No one was seriously hurt, but the injured and the driver went to the hospital for a checkup after the unusual crash. Police plan on charging the driver with DUI for his mistake.
It’s certainly an unusual crash. To drive fast enough to put an SUV through a brick wall takes some speed. But it could just as easily been caused by a mechanical failure like a stuck gas pedal.
