Alleged Drunk Man Steals Medical Transport with Patients Inside

We don’t know if it was drunkenness or just plain poor impulse control in this next case, assuming the facts reported by NBC Los Angeles are correct. One thing is for sure, though. He’s in a whole lot of trouble.

A medical van was parked outside of Scripps Mercy Hospital. The driver was dropping off one of three patients before making his next run. For whatever reason, he left the engine running. A man at the hospital thought this would be a perfect time to take a joyride. He stole the vehicle with the other two elderly patients still inside.

When the driver found his van was missing, he called 911. When the van was found at 4th Avenue and Walnut Street, officers saw the joyrider trying to drop off the other two patients. He was arrested and charged with DUI, kidnapping, and stealing a vehicle.

AMR, the company who hired the driver, is also investigating the matter and released a statement saying they will look into preventing similar incidents in the future.
