Alleged Drunk Driver Pleads Not Guilty In Anaheim Accident

NBC Los Angeles has released another follow-up on a tragic Anaheim DUI-related accident that took the life of a pregnant woman after an emergency c-section saved the life of her daughter, announcing that the driver who allegedly killed the expecting mother has entered her plea in the case.

The initial accident occurred last month, when the victim and her husband were walking down Katella Avenue near Bayless Street in Anaheim. The victim was struck on the sidewalk by a 40-year-old Los Angeles woman who was allegedly drunk and had been convicted multiple times of driving under the influence (DUI) and related charges. She had been notified that further offenses could lead to murder charges if her actions killed anyone.

The woman was rushed to the University of California-Irvine Medical Center Natal Intensive Care Unit, where the baby was delivered safely. Sadly, the mother succumbed to her injuries. The baby has since been released from the hospital and is home safely with her father.

The driver is facing charges of second-degree murder, DUI causing injury, and driving on a suspended or revoked license because of a DUI. If convicted of the charges, she faces the potential a life sentence. She appeared in court via video conference on Friday, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges.
