Alhambra Crash Leads to DUI Charges

A hit-and-run accident that occurred on Friday, August 5th left a young child in critical condition.  Police were finally able to apprehend the driver, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

21-year-old Abundio Flores-Ramon was booked on one count of felony DUI and one count of felony hit-and-run according to Alhambra police.

The arrest came after a mother and her 3-year-old child were struck by a Honda Civic while trying to cross in a cross-walk at 4th and Main on Friday evening.  The driver of the vehicle continued driving until he crashed into two cars a few blocks away.

According to police, the toddler was in serious but stable condition.  Four others, including Flores-Ramon were also treated for injuries.

Bail for the suspect was set at 10K.  A hearing was scheduled for August 10th.

Despite the fact that instances of drunk driving have decreased over the past few years, it remains a serious concern for law enforcement and health and safety administrations.  According to the CDC, between 2003 and 2011, there were 10,327 deaths related to instances of DUI in California alone.  Even as recently as 2013, the last year that data is available from the California DMV, there were 160,388 DUI-related arrests in California.
