5 Dead in Possible DUI Crash on PCH

KTLA Morning News reports five people were killed in a fiery multi-vehicle crash along PCH in Ventura County on Sunday morning.

A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) told reporters that the crash involving an SUV and a Subaru happened at approximately 4:20 a.m. in Point Mugu.

Emergency dispatchers received a call about the fiery crash involving a blue Subaru WRX and a small SUV. By the time the CHP and Ventura County firefighters responded to the scene, at least one vehicle was engulfed in flames. Ventura County Fire Department Captain Brian McGrath said both cars had caught fire.

Sgt John Larson with CHP Ventura told reporters that once the fire from both vehicles was put out, they found four people had been in the small SUV. All were declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the Subaru also was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of Sunday morning, the official cause of the crash was unknown. Investigators believe that one of the vehicles veered into the oncoming lane of PCH. So far, it is unclear which vehicle may have been at fault.

The fatal crash remains under investigation. Speed, alcohol, or both have not been ruled out.
