110 Crash Kills Infant

A tragic auto accident and suspected DUI has left a 4-month-old dead in Elysian Park. A 26-year-old Pasadena man was arrested on suspicion of DUI following an accident that injured three people including himself. The accident also fatally injured a 4-month-old infant.

The collision occurred at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes of the Pasadena Freeway. The accident was located in the tunnels on the Arroyo Seco Parkway south of the Golden Gate Freeway.

An infant in one of the vehicles was found to be without a pulse and not breathing. She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

A girl from La Crescenta, 10, was also injured along with 48-year-old LaShawn Stevens. Both were hospitalized with their injuries.

Jared Silvestri, who was arrested, was treated for a minor injury.

Stevens, who had been driving a 2006 Chrysler, began reducing her speed and pulling over to the shoulder of the freeway. Silvestri was driving a 2001 Chevrolet was speeding in the same direction.

Silvestri struck the rear end of Stevens’ vehicle. Both vehicles spun out of control and struck another 2001 Chevrolet.

The driver of the 3rd vehicle, who was identified as 35-year-old Andrew Johnson of Denver, did not sustain any injuries.

At 7:23 p.m., Silvestri was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. He may face additional charges now that the child has died.
