10-Year-Old Boy Dies, 3 Others Injured in Suspected DUI Crash

Fox Los Angeles reports that a 10-year-old boy has died, and three others suffered severe injuries in a suspected DUI crash in East Los Angeles over the weekend. 

According to the statement released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal crash happened in the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway at Indiana Street at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2021. 

A woman driving a gray 2004 Honda Accord was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver, a 29-year-old woman, failed to negotiate a curve along the freeway. Out of control, the vehicle crashed into a concrete wall.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, riding as a passenger in the front seat, and a 7-year-old boy were all seriously injured in the crash. A 10-year-old boy who was also in the vehicle was listed with life-threatening injuries at the time of the crash.

Both adults were rushed to Los Angeles / USC medical center while both children were transported to Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.  

Officer Patrick Campbell with the CHP told reporters that the 10-year-old boy died of his injuries shortly after his arrival while the 7-year old boy was treated for severe injuries.

Investigators say that both excessive speed and DUI are suspected in the accident. The driver has been arrested. Her identity had not been released at the time of the report.
